Photography: Laid Back Snacks Launch Photoshoot

New name, same delicious snacks.
After over five years as Naked Snacks, the Vancouver-based snack company has rebranded to Laid Back Snacks. Why? The brand has evolved from being just a packaged food product to a lifestyle brand that represents community, quality, functionality and fun. With their accelerated growth and shift towards mindful consumers, they felt they needed an all-encompassing name that captures the essence and values of their brand.
Having worked with Naked Snacks (now Laid Back Snacks) for a year on a combination of photography, organic social media and email marketing services, we were excited to continue to be involved as a photography partner for their rebrand. It’s really exciting when you not only witness growth like this but get to be a part of the change!
Backstage: The Photo Styling and Studio Shoot
Before our scheduled studio shoot day in December 2020, we worked with our client to create a clear shotlist which included the best of the best photos from Naked Snacks so we could recreate with the new brand name and use as an inspiration for their new Laid Back Snacks marketing materials.
One of our favourite things to do is to style symbolic props with snack packaging, to highlight the ingredient profiles of each snack. For example:
A bottle of maple syrup paired with their Maple Praline Almond nuts
A sushi mat and chopsticks styled with their Wasabi Me peas snack
A bottle of sriracha sauce paired with their Sriracha Cashew nuts
A fresh pineapple and coconut matched with their tropical Aloha Kauai snack mix
We loved working with the bold and vibrant colours of their rebrand, which was a refreshing change from their singular orange brand colour from before.
Creating a human element in photos during a pandemic (when social distancing is required), can be a tricky task. Instead of having models in the studio with us, as we’ve had in the past, Vanessa from Modern Mix Marketing and Daria from Laid Back Snacks stood in. Hey, maybe they should add modelling to their resumes?
There was a strategic effort in making sure that the content we styled and shot was evergreen, meaning that these photos were timeless and could be used indefinitely. For example, the photographs from the launch shoot weren’t tied to any specific season so that the final shots could be used year-round on social media, product inserts, paid advertising, information postcards, media kits, and more.
