Modern Mix Marketing: 2022 Year in Review

2022 was my first full year as a working mom.

I continued to work with a core set of clients in the first half of the year, then actively sought new opportunities as soon as I found reliable childcare.

Having now juggled both work and new parenthood for an entire year, I’ve realized how important finding balance between my personal and professional life is.

When balance is achieved, I find joy, confidence and fulfillment in all areas of my life.

In putting together my annual ‘year in review’ I made an encouraging discovery that I am very proud to share.

Of the clients I had at the end of 2022:

  1. Roughly half my clients were referred by the other half.

  2. I am going into my 5th calendar year working with two of my clients.

Relationships matter. To me, a referral is the highest form of a professional compliment. I feel grateful to the clients who think of me as part of their team.

Here are some of the select projects we worked on this year.

Marketing for Professional Services

I found myself working on several professional services companies this year, including a promotional products agency/manufacturer, two real estate groups, a mining company, and a group of investors looking for someone to do the social media analysis piece before potentially acquiring a business.

Video Content Creation (Instagram Reels)

In addition to the many marketing projects I work on with NENA Skincare, they also upped my scope to include video content creation. I was excited to start the “Glacial Lab” series, where I work with their R&D Team to show the research, science, and quality behind every skincare product produced. As a skincare brand with a small, limited collection of products, it can be challenging to come up with new content. Working with their R&D Team has opened up a new and exciting content area for me.

Marketing Strategy

I love working on marketing strategy. helping my clients understand the who, what, and why behind their marketing with an action plan on how to move forward, whether it’s with me or their existing team.

Marketing Management

While social media is often an introduction to working with me, many clients over the year have engaged me to do more than just social. I worked with Naked Snacks / Laid Back Snacks in 202 for social media until they grew to a point where they hired in-house. In 2022, they returned to a freelancer marketing model, and I returned to manage their marketing subcontractors.

My first project with Laid Back Snacks (formerly Naked Snacks) was helping them in the final stages of launching their new Corporate Gift Box program with marketing strategy. Then, after launch, ensuring everything was communicated seamlessly and accurately between paid ads, social, email, blogs, and photography.

I love working with independent freelancers who are all professionals in their area of expertise (ie. social, email, paid ads, photography, etc.) and seeing campaigns come to life. It’s also been a refreshing break for me to oversee and organize, while other talented freelancers create and produce.

Going into 2023, I’ll be doing the same for my newest client Elysian Health, a medical clinic offering private care in South Surrey.
